TRACK N TRAIL

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Venue: Dorchester

Result: 3rd Championship/ 2nd overall for the winter championship

With myself, Jon Hinam and Phil Strudley all in contention for the overall championship everyone was fired up for a good race. I opted for my 250F for this race as I wanted to get some practice on it, plus Andy at Poole Motorcycles had just kitted it out with the new team graphics, so it was good to get it out on show. The race was very fast and competitive. Some interesting river sections, lots of flat out field sections and some harder routes for the experts, unfortunately on a few laps the slower riders had attempted the hard routes and got stuck most of the time, which always puts a dent in the lap times, but never mind, just frustrating at the time. The race finished Bolter 1st, Hinam 2nd and me 3rd which place me 2nd in the overall championship so a good result. Thanks to Rich in the pits and Poole Motorcycles as usual, great graphics!

Portsmouth

Venue: Emsworth

Result: DNF

Following days of rain the track was fairly bad, in fairness the club had done all they could though. Riding my 2 stroke I took the holeshot and myself and Daryl Boulter pulled a good lead, I slid off and Freddie managed to catch me. I was going ok until someone fell off in front of me, unfortunately I was in the same rut. I slammed on the brakes but just skidded into the back of his bike but fairly hard and bent my front disc, and that was the end of my days racing.

Europeon championship day two

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Venue: Riom Des Mountains, France

Result:  14th E1

After the disappointment of yesterday I was keen to get a good result, it was still raining and I wasnt looking forward to the riding conditions, the tests were getting very tricky, they had cut alot of the extreme test out as it impossible to ride. We had expected the race to be cut to one lap but it stayed at two but they had given us 5 minutes more each check which meant 7 hours in the saddle today aswell. I managed to complete the day and finish 14th in class which I was pleased about, It was an extremely hard but enjoyable event. I have learnt a lot this weekend, riding this terrain, the tests were awesome and some of the going was SO challanging, you had to see it to believe it.  Well done to everyone who finished and congratulations to Leo for topping his class. It was a massive team effort to compete at this race so a big thank you to Kurt Pringle for driving and spannering the bike, Dave Moyce for travel and accommodation arrangements, Ollie for the mentoring and entertainment and keeping the video diary, need to work on your golf though mate, shame you couldnt ride, the girls for sorting the shopping and dinner etc, Daisy for helping out on the tests, Al king for the fueling and everyone else who was there really. Cant wait for Hungry next month.

Europeon Championship day one

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Venue: Riom Des Mountains, France

Result:  19th E1

Well after months of planning we were finally going, My registration document arrived at 12pm on the day we were going which was very lucky although we did have a back up plan. We left Ollies house at 3am on wednesday morning to catch the ferry and 7 hours driving the other side and we arrived about 4pm. We set the pits out and generally had a look around and looked at one test of three. Thursday was bike testing day and all the tests to walk 3 in total. The bike was running good so was ready for fridays scrutineering. Friday was signing on and scrutineering which all went fine, then on to walking the tests again which I must say were looking very tricky with massive hills and trials like sections, The sun was shining and if it were to stay like this it would be a great race. Saturday morning arrived in no time and we left our house and the rain started which concerned me as the tests were tricky enough especially the extreme test. It rained all day and the going was hard, I lost time but stayed in my 30 mins, unfortunately for me I had checked into the wrong colour gate on one of the checks which meant I was disqualified from the results, why they needed three different colour check gates all next to each other is beyond me but there were so that was that. Back to the house for some sleep after our 13 euro dinner and ready for tommorrow.

GBXC

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Venue: Baden Hall, Stafford

Result:  15th Pro

As with the first round of the Gbxc there was a huge entry for this round, The sun was shining and from what we could see from the car park the track looked good. Once again there was a great buzz in the paddock with everyone telling the usual stories of what they are going to do in the race (Daryl going to jump the river was the best one). The start straight was a bit of a joke really, A 20m dash into an S bend along side a river the immediate left over the bridge, and having watched the first race if you were last over the bridge you would be a good 500m behind the leaders as they went around the lake. The course was ok but full of large rocks poking through on the fast straights and other items such as drain covers etc which made it quite dangerous. Definately not one of thier better venues which is a shame because some top riders said that was enough for them and they would not ride any more of them. Ollie had a big off and seperated his shoulder which could put him out for france next week aswell so not a great weekend.
